Candles of varying heights on a plate. Candles are very inexpensive (compared to flowers) and look just as elegant.

or you may also buy tea light candles and have them float over water (buy something to hold the water) and have each table with 3 candles or 5

Go to a craft store and get some bigger candles and some glitter to place on the table. I would also place a disposable camera on each table so you have plenty of pics.

For my wedding we used the favors as the center peices. I took white 'lunch' type bags, folded down the top and added a ribbon handle. Then I hotglued a silk flower to the front. inside I put a candle, a matchbook with our names on it and some candy. I alternated them on the tables with luminaries made out of the same bags. For those, I folded down the same bags, put some sand in the bottom and a candle. The tables were beautiful after it got dark.

Spray burgundy red stiff paper gold but letting the burgundy showthrough or buy stiff paper that is gold on at least one side then spray the other side gold then cut the paper into different sized butterflies folding the butterflies so that the middle body part of the butterfly stays flat. Use three models to trace around so as to get the most butterflies from your paper. Buy a couple of small glue guns and one Glade candle (try to buy them wholsale-vanilla would probably be the best color)per table and peel off the labels (easy)Put a stack of small plates in the center of each table and cover with two burgundy napkins so that the 8 corners are showing...This is to elevate the candles a bit- glue one or two smaller butterflies on the candle glasses and place other butterflies around the central part and on the table cloth .... you have to glu a flat paperclip (or something else) to weight the body part of each butterfly so that they stay posed right.. just a drop of glue is enough.

DIY centerpieces can actually be nicer then ones you buy, if you have a good eye.

Personally, I'm not one for flowers. They are too expensive too. I love candle centerpieces.

You can do a lot with burgundy/wine/red colors this time of year. The store is full of decor items for Christmas, that you can easily turn into fun centerpieces.

I would use pillar candles and put them inside glass vases/candle holders. You could fill the bottoms of the vases/candle holders w/ colored glass stones(available online and at craft stores). Then, I would buy either tea lights or votive in different, yet matching shades of red/burgundy/wine. Place those candles around the main pillar candle.

It's simple, yet cheap and classy.

You can get pillar candles for as cheap as $1.99. If the wedding is after the holiday season, I would wait to buy. All the red candles you see in the stores will be 50% off.

The vases can be tricky to find. I've seen nice ones at Pier 1, but they can be expensive. However, sometimes they do have sales and you'll be surprised at how cheap they can be. Also, try Walmart or Target.

Well, hoped this helped. Have fun.
