I am getting married next year and the reception hall we reserved needs some desperate help. The chairs are metal, and no we cannot afford to rent tables or chairs, and the tables are long and rectangular. If anyone has any ideas on how to spruce these up, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Get tulle fabric and tie bows on the backs of the chairs over the metal part…also with to tables get some table clothes, plastic works. Then spread some flower petals on the table with centerpieces, and it would look great.
Hi. I don’t know how many you are planning to have at your reception. Depending on the number, and your budget, please get REAL tablecloths (or rent them). It will look so much more elegant than paper or plastic tablecloths. If you cannot afford to…then use the paper….not plastic!
So definitely cover the tables. There is not much you can do about the chairs. Really once everyone is seated, it will be fine.
Cover the tables and get some nice centerpieces. This can be really easy. I know exactly the tables you are talking about. They are used all the time where I live. The standard banquet table is 96″ long, but is only 30″ across. So you must remember that people will have a plate, glass, etc. There is not allot of room in the center!
I would do 2 centerpieces on each table. Get a small bowl or vase and put in some “vase gems.” Then float a candle in it. Place it on a miror and sprinkle some rose petals next to it! Easy, elegant, and affordable!
Good luck!
Instead of renting tables and chairs you can rent just the tablecloths and chair covers. Instead of white napkins buy colored napkins to match you color scheme. Pre-fold them nicely ahead of time and set them out on the tables to brighten them up. Also make sure you have colorful centerpieces to brighten up the room. Beautiful doesn’t have to be expensive..
I would look at chair covers! You can get ones that match your wedding theme. Get the brides magazine there are TONS of different decoration ideas in them. Also I would definitely get table covers to brighten the place up! I would get chair covers too because the metal chairs may be very uncomfortable for people!
For the tables put an oblong centerpiece in the middle. Then put a votive candle on each side. You could also have a plain white table cloth over the rectangle and then put a smaller square tablecloth in your color (in a diamond) in the middle.
For the chairs, find some chair covers.

Maybe you can haggle with the ebay vendors if you are buying a lot of them. Plus people are selling used chair covers so it may not end up being so expensive if you resell them.

i’m planning on using rectangle tables at my wedding one day when that happens lol. but for retangle tables, you put down watever table cloth color you would want to use, say for instance the color of your wedding. on top of that put down long rectangle class on top, for the middle of the table. with that you can use retangle glass vases for decoration of different sizes having water, candles, floating candles, or flowers in them all arranged. it gives a drama affect and lighting and romantic glow to the table.
the chairs you can put chair covers over them, or use tool and make a ribbon.
