Your wedding reception is a true party celebrating the marriage that just took place. And decorating the party room is a true expression of who you are and how you want your guests to feel. It is an amazing feeling when you see how you have helped transform the space.

Seating arrangements at a reception are arduous, but so essential. To let your guests know where they are to sit, the most simple, classic way is to have a calligrapher write out the guests’ name and table number on a small tent card.

Depending on if you have a theme to your wedding, rather than basic table numbers you can highlight your theme. For example, if you are a having a purple themed wedding, rather than tables one and two, you may name them lavender and violet. For a black and white themed wedding, you may choose black and white animals or your favorite black and white movies and name the tables accordingly. If you and your new groom have special interests and hobbies you like to do together or places that you have visited name your tables after them and have a picture of the two of you at the specific tables.

The reception will offer you a standard set of table linens and place settings, but ask what their upgrades are, it may be just a little more for a nicer set. The same is true of chairs. For a little extra, you may be able to have your chairs covered, which will change the entire look of your wedding to luxurious and fabulous.

What is a reception without centerpieces? If you are in a room with very high ceilings a tall centerpiece will work well. This should be above your guests’ line of sight, so that they can talk to the person across the table. A tall centerpiece in a big room with high ceiling will draw the eye up. If you opt for a low centerpiece, you want it to be below the line of sight, for the same reason. You don’t want your guests to feel to have to move the decorations out of the way to talk to people.
