This set claims to be compatible with Thomas Train. Well for the most part it is, but not 100%, especially if you plan on using Thomas Engine motorized. There are some other drawbacks as well. The track is metric and slightly narrower than true Thomas track so Thomas cars don’t fit completely down into the grooves. The supplied Chinese cars that come with this set do fit better, though their quality is not even close as good as Thomas brand. The bridge in the center of photo shown is positioned too close to the “downhill” slope of track and taller cars will not fit underneath it. Because the track is slightly narrower, motorized Thomas Tank Engine, especially, tends to run off of the track and will not stay on. I removed the “rubber band” edging on the front wheels only which allowed more slippage and kept Thomas Engine on the track more reliably. I know this set is not really intended per say for Thomas otorized engine, but a Thomas brand set would work much better being Thomas brand track is wider, and deeper grooved. You get what you pay for as they say, and if I had to do it over again, I’d spent the extra money and went authentic Thomas brand. Also, the crane has a small wooden dowel that sticks into a hole with no latching or locking it in so my two year-old pulls the crane out regularly. After using some extra Thomas track I had laying around, I modified the layout enough to position the bridge farther down toward the front over the flat portion of the “downsloped” piece so that the cars would fit under the bridge and then glued the entire set down to make it all permanent. If you’re a handy type, you can tweak it to work decent, but if i had it to do over knowing what I know now, I’d just paid the extra for genuine Thomas brand stuff. The wheels ont the Chinese cars are not attached as well either as on the Thomas brand, so if you’re like me with another smaller child to be in the room as well, you might want to avoid any possiblilty of loose wheels and stick with Thomas brand, which is much higher quality, and the wheels seem to be actually round, and attached in safer fashion. Other than that, my 2+ year old doesn’t know the difference and has a ball playing all day with it. If you’re just buying it to use the cars included as a push only set, it’s definately fine for that.
My kids recieved this as a gift from their grandparents. It is fantastic! Very sturdy, looks great, everything you need for a train table! This company shipped it very fast and packaged it well. Assembly was time consuming, but kinda fun to set everything up! The best part is that it goes with Thomas the Train and Brio stuff, so you can mix it up. 5 stars all the way around!
Bought this for my 2.5 yr old. He absolutely loves it. Keeps him entertained so I can make supper! That right there is a winner in my book.
This train table exceeded my expectations in so many way. I was very happy with the quality and it is standing up to my children’s abuse. I also wanted to note that this seller is incredible and worked with me when we had problems. Outstanding product and service.
This was a Christmas gift (2008). My son plays with it every day still. I am writing this in May. We did assemble the parts for him (seeing as how he is two) like they do in the store. We used finishing nails to secure the track to the platform.
My son plays with all his toys on top of this table, plus it looks nice and does not wabble. There are even baskets underneath to store other toys. Very nice toy. I love it (but not as much as him)
