Usually, the couch or entertainment center get most of the attention in one’s house, but there is nothing wrong with changing this, and one great way to do so is the addition of a marble coffee table.

Marble is a decorating style that is ornamental, enduring and just plain beautiful to look at, nothing else is more so. Marble has played a huge role in the exterior and interior décor of architectural buildings and homes for centuries, yet has somewhat fallen in popularity with regards to coffee tables. The reason for this is not because they have fallen out of popularity (most people would agree that marble is a welcome element in almost any home) but because their practicality is a hindrance.

A beautiful marble coffee table is usually bulky in size, and massive in weight, which makes it extremely difficult to move, and even more difficult to ship. If you’ve ever considered importing an authentic Italian marble coffee table, you may want to reconsider. The cost of shipping can cost you nearly as much as the table itself.

Wooden Computer Desk

Sure, computers are modern and that have those snazzy metal and plastic or fake wood computer desks, but there’s something about having a quality made all wood desk to sit your computer on. Maybe it’s the contrast. Whatever it is, a wood computer desk is a good way to add to your home.

Wooden Couch

Have you ever been in a home where the coffee table absolutely dwarfed the rest of the room? It can be hard to have a conversation when the sofa and recliners are separated by a table that seems more suited to having a picnic than to hosting guests and serving coffee. Then there are those perfect coffee tables that happen to be too high or low so that you either need to stand up or kneel down to retrieve a drink. Let’s face it: the coffee table is one difficult piece of furniture to get right and when we get it wrong—we get it REALLY wrong!

The perfect coffee table for your home décor will be unique for all of us. However, there are some things to avoid when buying a coffee table to make sure that you don’t get the WRONG coffee table for your furniture and design scheme. One of those mistakes is buy premium coffee tables that are not to scale with the room dimensions.

Depending on your furniture arrangement, it is a good idea for the coffee table to be within 16 inches of the sofa, love seat, and any chairs that are central to the main seating area. The larger the seating area, the larger the coffee table needs to be. The idea is for guests to have access to the coffee table without feeling cramped when getting in and out of their seats. It is also a good idea to measure not only the dimensions of the room, but also of any doorways leading into the room as well. If the delivery people can’t get the table through the door then it doesn’t matter how great it would look in your living room.

While there has been a movement to omit coffee tables from today’s décor, a room without one seems partially empty. It noticeably shows that something is missing. For instance a loveseat and a sofa grouped without a coffee table is extremely open, too open. While that open void of a space is the goal of many designers these days, it lacks a convenient space to rest anything you are dealing with, whether it’s a scrapbook or photos, a laptop computer or, of course, a cup of coffee. Even the best conceived furniture groupings lack places to rest things that inevitably end up in your hands. How frustrating would it be to be forced to hold your coffee cup until you had finished your drink? Or to be forced to balance things on your lap all the time, because there was no table available to set them down?

Coffee tables are a source for a lot of socialization. This is where people sit and sip their drink while talking, or possibly gossiping to one another. If people are uncomfortable talking, because they are forced to balance their coffee or hold it the whole time, they may be more focused on where they could put their drink, instead of giving you the best dirt.

Coffee tables also serve another valuable purpose – to define the room. Coffee tables define the space as much as end tables define the grouping in a living space. If you’re designing an L-shaped grouping, the coffee table helps to connect one piece of furniture to another visually. While the two pieces may match, they exist individually until there is a centerpiece that can bridge them. Those centerpieces are often coffee tables.
