What is reclaimed wood?
Reclaimed wood is recycled wood which has been previously used in another structure. This wood is formed by disassembling and recycling before being employed in a new building. Reclaimed woods find use in furniture, flooring, in barn construction and so on. Using reclaimed wood for construction comes as a much cheaper option than new woods as these do not need felling more trees and requires no shaping. And, these woods are as good a new lumber since they come in the same varieties like pine, mahogany and oak. The biggest advantages of reclaimed wood are that it is an environment friendly option and takes the least economic toll.
How to source reclaimed woods?
Reclaimed woods can be sourced from specialist wood dealers, locally or online. Sometimes, some building material dealers also stock recycled woods. With special permission, you may even get such usable woods from a demolition site directly. Before purchasing, check to see all the metal fastenings have been completely removed from the lumber and there are no traces of creosote, cement or preservatives. For the exact measurements of the lumber carry a tape.
